Fables
What is a fable?
- A fable is a short story that teaches a lesson or moral.
- The characters are usually animals that think and talk like people. This is called personification.
- One character in a fable usually has a flaw. Examples of character flaws are: being lazy, being dishonest, or being boastful.
Who was Aesop?
Many people have told fables for thousands of years. Aesop was a writer in ancient Greece who wrote many fables.
How do you read a fable?
- The title tells you who the main characters are.
- Look for a character that shows the way humans should not behave.
- Look for a character that acts the way humans should behave.
- Notice the events that happen to the main characters.
- Use the events to figure out the moral or lesson of the fable.
